Brief

On March 14, 2021, New York City marked the one-year anniversary of its first COVID-19 death with an official Day of Remembrance honoring more than 30,000 New Yorkers lost to the pandemic.

Ghost designed, engineered, and built the content and playback systems for the centerpiece: portraits of 470 New Yorkers lost to COVID projected onto the stone arches of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Using photogrammetry and architectural drawings, we created detailed 3D models of the bridge’s surfaces and pre-programmed the entire projection in a virtual environment, ensuring every portrait would be legible from the ceremony viewing area while accounting for challenges like ambient light spill from roadway lighting.

The challenge wasn’t just technical scale, it was emotional weight. Each portrait needed to feel dignified, personal, and visible from both the ceremony site and throughout Brooklyn Bridge Park.
